Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina

CIBER-BBN is one of the nine CIBER consortiums (Biomedical Network Research Centers) existing in Spain created by the Ministry of Health to encourage quality research and the critical mass of researchers in the field of Biomedicine and Healthcare Sciences.

Two of these groups participate in the project:

1.      The Molecular Nanoscience and Organic Materials Group (Nanomol Group) of the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona-Spanish Scientific Research Council (ICMAB-CSIC) and member of the Xarxa TECNIO and of the Parc de Reserca UAB (PRUAB).

2.      The Nano and micro technologies, Biomaterials and Cells Group (NanoBioCel Group) of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

Specific role in the project

CIBER-BBN: CIBER-BBN will be responsible for the galenic development and its transfer to the industrial partners, dealing with all the tasks described in WP3 and WP6.

Expertise relevant to the proposed work

CIBER-BBN: CIBER-BBN counts with a Management Office dealing with the organizational issues of the Consortium.

Nanomol Group: has broad expertise in the synthesis and processing of functional molecular and polymeric materials, and is aiming to actively contribute to the implementation of molecular nanotechnology and the use of green solvents in industrial productive processes of molecular materials.

NanoBioCel Group: is involved in important research projects in the field of pharmaceutical technology and more specifically, in the design of drug delivery systems for biotechnological products.

Profile of key personnel

PhD. Santiago Sala: Researcher of CIBER-BBN specialized in preparation and characterization of micro and nanostructured molecular materials with application in drug delivery and nanomedicine. S. Co-founder of the spin-off company NANOMOL TECHNOLOGIES SA. He is a member of the Nanomol Group.
